Von Pea announces New Tanya Morgan Project; "You & What Army?!" I geek out inside.

leave a comment »

While we’re pointing out Twitter announcements, dont know if I’m allowed to point this one out but considering Von Pea announced it a few days ago and I’ve just been running behind on getting to all the musicawesomes in my life… I might as well point out more new music coming from Tanya Morgan, my favorite boys.
Now when a musician says September, that usually means a month or two after that. Regardless, after that “Without Hands” track they just dropped, I’m just happy to know that theres more good music on the way.

Is anyone else noticing the Red Hot Chili Peppers popping up all over the Internets? Yeah.

Awesome.

In case you didn’t notice…. It looks like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are gearing up their Social Media game for their new album release, “I’m With You.” Starting a brand new twitter account a few days ago, then tweeting a picture of the boys at a photo shoot to make things official, the new RCHP Twitter seems like this will be the place to get updates on their newest project and other random awesomeness, like their very first trip to Hong Kong. Thought they woulda did that already.

More importantly… they’ve already listed the Tracklisting for their new album. So you know its serious.

Brothers and sisters! Here are the song titles of our new record ‘I’m With You’ Yeeeeah muthafuckas!

1. Monarchy of Roses
2. Factory of Faith
3. Brendan’s Death Song
4. Ethiopia
5. Annie Wants a Baby
6. Look Around
7. The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie
8. Did I Let You Know
9. Goodbye Hooray
10. Happiness Loves Company
11. Police Station
12. Even You Brutus?
13. Meet Me at the Corner
14. Dance, Dance, Dance

There you have it.

For those who are into the old school way of doing things (lolz), you can check out their main website for more. I’ll be staring at their twitter for now.

Enjoy.

I want to be like Jeremy Ellis when I grow up. You dont EVEN understand right now.

with one comment

Very few people outright inspire me to go out, buy equipment I know nothing about, and play around with making beats on Maschines that I wouldn’t even understand how to use. Adding himself to that small list of people who make me want to be a better musician/person is Detroit born and 808 raised Jeremy Ellis, one of the most suprisingly illest beatmakers to pop up lately. Not only are his skills on the MPC incredible, he also does amazing things on a piano system I have yet to place a name to (but DJ Jedi showed me the other week at Turntable Lab LA and you can see below in his Dilla tribute) and gives you lessons on how to become fairly awesome at it yourself.

If you dont believe me, you can watch him do his thing below.

…and I can’t believe someone got my very first introduction to his skills on tape. An AMAZING Dilla tribute he did in Chinatown a few months back. Glorious. Thanks, guy who got this on tape. You’re amazing.

From there, his website is here, his twitter is here, and let this dude get back into Los Angeles. I’m taking the camera. It will be glorious.
You watch and try to learn something new.

Chaka Khan and I have an awesome moment in time. Anita Baker follows me on Twitter. Life is Suddenly Complete.

(If the picture is too small for you… and I’m sure it is… just click here.)

Because things like this matter to me.

So not only do I have a beautiful moment in time with Chaka Khan earlier this week (that will be a potholes blog shortly), I achieve the Social Media Nerd’s dream by actually having the Legendary Anita Baker follow me. WTF? Chaka Khan? Anita Baker follow? How in the entire hell did you get her to do this, you ask?  Well, other than using twitter CORRECTLY, I ended up having to explain why some people are twitter stupid and get mad when celebrities don’t follow back (and several other things). I just didn’t want her to be thrown off by internet idiots, you know. In a hilarious twist of fate that completely surprised the holy music Jebus out of me, Ms. Baker then promptly followed my account.

I then did the total anti-thesis of what you’re supposta do as a Twitter Pro and Social Media Director and secretly had a music nerd spazzout. I somewhat recovered, then hit screen shot; thus preserving proof of this epic moment in Music Nerd, Anita Baker loving history. If she ever unfollows me, its TOTALLY okay. I understand. I tweet heavy. Its okay. But for now, I am in an ELITE LIST of motherfu*kers (I’m sitting right next to Esperanza Spalding for the LOVE OF MUSIC JEBUS; that MIGHT require a screenshot within itself), and I will bask in EVERY SECOND of the glory for the meantime. No, I am not ashamed to occasionally release my inner fanboy.

I am a full-out twitter nerd, kids. If you haven’t noticed. I keep a thorough list of followers. Really. Part of it is having an old 2007/2008 account, part of it is just people I know. So I try to keep some kinda  But I gotta admit… pressures on with Anita following me now. @KakiKing complains about me overtweeting and swearing my ass off at times and I totally ignore her. Ms. Baker starts to following me, and I find myself editing my swears and making sure what I have to say is relevant. Thats power. LOL. This, by default, will make me a better tweeter. Should be awesome.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go celebrate this Epic Nerd Victory by immediately putting my entire physical catalog of Anita Baker into rotation. Even the Vinyls. And A bottle of my Bert Simon Riesling. And finish this Roots Grammy Jam Review | Awesome Chaka Khan Moments in Time for you to review pretty soon.

Later people.

If you don’t know, just act like you do. Or I wont like you too much.

Oh My Lord I love you so much.

Why You Should Care:
She is Legend. Her voice and her story are a gift from God. One of the most powerful Altos/Contraltos I’ve had the honor of hearing Live. Her chest voice will make the earth SHAKE. Her voice can literally. LITERALLY. Fill an ENTIRE amphitheater with a resonance that even her own microphone and speakers cant handle (It happened at the Pala Casino; 2007. Check that link below. I was there). Its proof that Musical Jebus exists.  I’ve SEENT THE GLORY. PRAISE HER NAME.

And then, I mean, along with the 8 Grammys, 9 American Music Awards (give or take), 2 Gold Albums (last one in 2005), 4 Platinum albums and however many various international awards, jazz awards and Honors shes picked up along the way… there’s the plain and simple fact that her voice is probably one of the main reasons why I adore music the way I do. Waking up every other morning to the sound of this womans voice isn’t a bad way to grow up. Great way to tune your Perfect Pitch too.

With songs like “Angel” (Wedding Song Material), “You’re the Best Thing Yet,” Giving  You the Best That I Got, The Epically Truthiness Filled (Dont Believe In) “Fairy Tales,” and the old school jammyjam, “Do You Believe In Me?” all you have to do is basically shut up and listen. Then watch her sit down with Snoop Dogg for a quick interview and information on plans for a new album. Then go see her live. Then let her change your life.

And now… to add to all the glory… Anita Baker looks like she’s finally made to twitter. While it’s not verified (They aren’t verifying accounts until after the permanent switch to New Twitter, supposedly), It looks genuine and is verified by her website. So for now, I’m going with it.

Oh my God, I love this woman like she’s my Momma. *smh*

Enjoy The Links, and have a good one.

Questlove tweets about supposed Third Album; Cover Art for "Wake Up!" | Amy Winehouse and Nas party together in London. Photos:

It looks decent. It sounds better though.

So one day in twitterland, I noticed that @Questlove had changed his twitter avatar picture to what looked like the new cover for “Wake Up!” his new collaborative effort with John Legend. I commented on it shortly, tweeting that I couldn’t pay attention to anything else but what was in that avatar, and wanting to know more. Well, he was nice enough to get back with a twitpic link to the artwork for me, saying “let’s start here. 3-ALBUMS-IN 2010. you thought #HIGO was all? nope i got #musicfordays.”

Well sh*t dude. Now I wanna know what this magical third album is, who it’s with, where its coming from and when can I get it. God. I Hate/Love when my favorite musicians tease me.

Amy and Nas Partying in London. I hope something musically productive comes of this.

In other news, I just wanted to post this one photo of my musical dreams coming true. Depending on how it goes. It seems that Nas and Amy Winehouse have finally touched basis and gotten together to spend some time in London. Amy had been sending Nas secret signals of her adoration since her first album with “In My Bed,” and more blatant references to her love in “Me and Mr. Jones….” So I’ve been wondering if eventually their paths would cross. And they have.

Amy continues to look healthier and has taken off that engagement ring from Blake off her finger (PRAISE JEBUS) and was out and about with two of her (my) favorite musicians, Nas and Damian Marley. The tabloids are going to do whatever they want with this story, but I just want to see some kinda awesome Musical collaboration between all these people. And soon. Hopefully since she’s off the smack, it might actually happen.

These are the random, awesome things that intrigued me in music today. I’m sorry I couldn’t add tons more, as I’m doing 12 things at one time.
Enjoy.
