Holly Miranda and Rachael Cantu Live at The Bootleg Theatre – 7.6.11. Link:

If I haven’t previously spoken on the amazingness that is Rachael Cantu in all her glory… forgive me. But she’s basically one of the illest female indie acts to come out of Southern California lately. While I’m backed up with multiple concerts to go to, you might want to go check out Rachael with her friend Holly Miranda opening at the Bootleg. Definitely worth the measly $10 ticket. Swipe from LA Weekly:

Holly Miranda’s enchanting vocals float through a shiny sea of swirling synth tones and layers of shimmering atmospherics on her latest album, The Magician’s Private Library, which was produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. The ethereal soundscapes often evoke the Cocteau Twins, but Miranda puts her own distinct stamp on such engrossing interludes as “Waves” and “Slow Burn Trea-son.” A track like “Joints” comes off like a Pink Floyd reverie, but it’s brightened by Miranda’s airy vocals, thoughtful lyrics and compel-lingly feminine mystique. The O.C. native Rachael Cantu has a more straightforward pop-folk style, but her songs are more intelligent than most waiflike singer-songwriters, and her spare version of Tom Waits’ “San Diego Serenade” is both intimate and haunting.

Check out her Facebook page for more music and info on the show tonight, and go have some fun.

Kaki King @ Belly Up Tavern, San Diego = Best Kaki King Show I’ve Been To.

Proof of a great show. 😉

It was the second to last show of Kaki’s Spring Tour for “Junior.” And at that point, it was clear she wasn’t giving too much of a shit anymore. So that night at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, California, Kaki King proceeded to have a total cathartic release, musical style. The result? One of the best shows that Kaki has done to date. With great lighting, a great atmosphere, the sound specs perfect, and one of the livest crowds I’ve ever had the pleasure to party with… What I witnessed really was her first full-out Rock Show. And with highlights like Kaki explaining the origin of both her Stage and Birthname, Epic Versions of Doing the Wrong Thing|My Nerves that Committed Suicide that video can’t even do justice (you had to BE there to HEAR that shit man…), Impromptu Dance Parties and the Buttfucking of one of the greatest Kaki King fans EVER, theres fun to be had. Best part of the night? After Kaki started her dance party, overhearing two people behind me say “Welp, this is Top 10 Gigs of the year.” To which his friend replied, “Fuck that. Top Five. I had no ideal she was going to be like THIS. This show was UNREAL.”
And THATS when I knew. lol.

Confused? Just take some time and watch the show.
