Holly Miranda and Rachael Cantu Live at The Bootleg Theatre – 7.6.11. Link:

If I haven’t previously spoken on the amazingness that is Rachael Cantu in all her glory… forgive me. But she’s basically one of the illest female indie acts to come out of Southern California lately. While I’m backed up with multiple concerts to go to, you might want to go check out Rachael with her friend Holly Miranda opening at the Bootleg. Definitely worth the measly $10 ticket. Swipe from LA Weekly:

Holly Miranda’s enchanting vocals float through a shiny sea of swirling synth tones and layers of shimmering atmospherics on her latest album, The Magician’s Private Library, which was produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. The ethereal soundscapes often evoke the Cocteau Twins, but Miranda puts her own distinct stamp on such engrossing interludes as “Waves” and “Slow Burn Trea-son.” A track like “Joints” comes off like a Pink Floyd reverie, but it’s brightened by Miranda’s airy vocals, thoughtful lyrics and compel-lingly feminine mystique. The O.C. native Rachael Cantu has a more straightforward pop-folk style, but her songs are more intelligent than most waiflike singer-songwriters, and her spare version of Tom Waits’ “San Diego Serenade” is both intimate and haunting.

Check out her Facebook page for more music and info on the show tonight, and go have some fun.

Great show for a Great Cause.

Great show for a Great Cause.

Hey LA peoples. Looks like we lucked out again.

Kaki King is back in town, and she’s teaming up with Rachel Cantu, Carina Round, Ben Lee, and The Silverlake Chorus to do a HUGE live benefit show for Coast to Coast concerts. They are doing a wonderful sequence of shows that benefit People and Industries directly effect by the stupidity of BP Oil and their mistakes in the Gulf. With art being done by @AndreaArceneaux for auction, and tons of surprise guests hanging around in the crowd… its sure to be a Great Time for a Great Cause.

A little information on The shows and how everything is working from Coast to Coast’s website:
On July 1st, 2010, nationwide venues will hold benefits to help those affected by the Gulf Coast Oil Spill. All proceeds will be donated to our nonprofit partner the GULF RESTORATION NETWORK which provides assistance to the people, wildlife, and wetlands affected as well as advocacy work throughout the Gulf Coast. Follow @gulfbenefit for more info.

For tickets and further information on the event, you can go to Kaki King’s website, or you can hit up The Mint LA for more info.

Better see you there.

Have fun.

(p.s. No, I’m not officially back yet. This is just going up for my girl. Just give me a few more days to shake the Jet Lag off. )
