Since we all know I’m in love with KCRW, we all know that I’m definitely going to take some time to pay attention to the “Also I Like To Rock” festival, which is always good summer times. Starting July 7th and taking over every Thursday in July at Hammer Museum. Headliners include Graffiti6 (I really like those kids, actually), The Soft Pack, Grouplove, and The Henry Clay People. Swipe from the KCRW Blog:

KCRW is partnering with the Hammer Museum again for the free, all ages music series Also I Like to Rock, which takes place at the Hammer on four consecutive Thursdays in July

The night kicks off at 7pm with DJ sets by KCRW’s own selectors followed by two band performances, including headliners Graffiti6, The Soft Pack, Grouplove, and The Henry Clay People. The full line up is below.

Admission is on a first come, first served basis AND the museum galleries stay open late so you can take advantage of the tunes and the art appreciation all at once.

Also, if you’re a KCRW member, you get priority entry and exclusive access to the VIP lounge. That’s how we roll!

Head over to the Hammer Museum site if you need more info, and enj0y.

Radiohead: Staircase – Under The Stairs. Amazing Live Footage.

I’m mad this has been out for a minute, and I’m just now finding it. I’m even more mad that one of you didnt tell me all of this live musical awesome was going on. Taken from their “King Of Limbs” project and featuring several amazing musicians whose names escape me right now,  this live version of “Staircase” basically shows you why Radiohead is more talented than your current top 10 favorite artists put together, frankly. The older they get… the more musically powerful they become. AWESOME.

Welp, I’ll be watching this for the rest of the night. Hit the Like button or Retweet this awesomeness.
You Enjoy.

She's SO COOL.

I’ve talked about Rachelle Ferrell before (click here and act like you know).
At this point, it will be my 4th time seeing her in the same amount of years. And every time I go, the turnout grows just a bit more and more. It started with taking mom as a gift for mother’s day… and continued on ever since then. Why? Because she continues to give one of the best Live Jazz Performances I’ve seen. In a small venue format. Its AMAZING. This woman does everything. From singing with an 8 Octave range (INCLUDING THE WHISTLE REGISTER PEOPLE) to scat-vocals to BeatBoxing better than your favorite rapper… Rachelle Ferrell is possibly one of the greatest and UNDERRATED vocal talents of all time. OF ALL TIME. ©kanye.

You can click here to buy tickets… I already have. And I’m inviting buddies. I don’t care if you’ve never heard of her or her music before. You should get familiar and see this woman while you can. Eventually I’ll get around to making another appreciation post. Until then, you google this woman and witness her GREATNESS.

This is really sad and really amazing all at once.

Its unfortunate the way music has changed in the last few years.  Somewhere along the way people started thinking that you could just take music off the internet without consequence. People started lying to themselves, stating that CDs and Vinyl records are “outdated.” Okay. Whatever you need to say in order to get your Pirate on.   What you weren’t thinking about is the small, independent record stores like Pennylane, Knockout and now… FatBeats… who were actually kind of dependent on you guys sticking to being honest music collectors, and buying music from them, at least ONCE in a while.

It’s a two-way street, I know. For years, the Music Industry have gouged both music fans and their artist of their money for at times… an inferior product. I understand. I remember back in the day when it was like, $20 to buy a CD. It was wack. Also, It’s a recession and a lot of us don’t have jobs or extra money to spend on music like we used to. Thats real. I respect that. But  you guys stopped buying CDs long before this. And its beginning to show. Well… it has been showing for a while. Now its blatant. lol. It makes me think that people honestly believe that music is a disposable and unimportant part of entertainment and life in general. I really hope we haven’t reached that point.

Anyways, forget that rant. I’m here to celebrate the awesomeness that was and still IS FatBeats Los Angeles, located at 7600 Melrose Avenue (323 655-8997)… and the Amazing Final In-Store Line Up that makes up the last week of FatBeats LA being open for business In-Store (online sales will continue). Not only is this an opportunity to get into the store and buy some music to make up for all the stuff you’ve been stealing online (oops), it really is set to be one of the greatest weeks in Los Angeles Hip Hop in a long while. With sets from my buddy and certified winner, DJ Jedi… and the legendary Peanut Butter Wolf, Rhettmatic, J Rocc and more… along with appearances from Blue, Dilated Peoples, Chino XL and Planet Asia… its set to be an exhibit of Hip Hop Culture at its finest.

If you don’t go, you’re not hip hop.
