Check this awesomeness.
So I preordered my copy of the Amazing album, “The Stimulus Package,” about 2 weeks before it dropped. If I can give my money directly to the source, I’ll always take that route… I wanna make sure my money gets to the right place. Especially in this economy.

So in return for making a direct order from The Fifth Element Online, you got an AWESOME package of stuff included with your CD, which already had some of the best packaging and liner notes of the last 12 months. All of this for $14.50 including the shipping, which frankly is  a steal.

look at all this free awesome.

Now, if that wasn’t enough to activate the Music Nerd in you, wait until you see what I got in the mail on saturday from Jake One, Freeway and The Fifth Element… My Official Stimulus Package Check. Just when I thought it was over, Jake and Freeway take music marketing, packaging and over all coolness to a whole other level with this one…

Taking that Music Nerdery to a WHOLE new level. And yes, in the upper right hand corner...

YES. The Jake One/Freeway STAMP, family. They are THOROUGH. but wait... it gets better....

Inside is a HAND SIGNED Stimulus "Check" from Jake (Secretary of Beats) and Freeway (Chief of Rhymes) for %15 of my next purchase at the Fifth Element Store. Seriously. How much cooler can this shit get? My musical journey is complete. LoL.

Musicians and those in the music business trying to figure out how to move units in this day of the digital download…. Take note.
THIS is how you do an album release. Giving the fans not only the great packaging and liner notes and a great album of music… but paying attention to and showing appreciation for the fans out there, with little things like this. These are the things that keep your fans dedicated, and waiting for more. In my case, its got me up and blogging (even tho I’m not really feeling it) because if you guys can take the time to sit down and sign I don’t know HOW many of these things… the least I can do is blog about how AMAZING it is, along with a full album review (coming shortly).

Seriously, I havent seen anything THIS thorough since Tanya Morgan came through with the Brooklynatti Survival Kit last year. That was pretty amazing.

Anyways, enjoy the photos, and spread the word. If  you havent purchased that Jake One/Freeway album, direct order that through their distributor, Fifth Element. You Cant Lose.

Also, a lot of you noticed that yesterday was one of the first days in history of this newbie blog where I didnt post anything. Just to let you know, I will be taking a day or two off for a minute to attend to some family business (drama), reup my blog supply and get back to you with more good music. If anything major happens, including news with VH1Soul, I will have someone update and get you informed quickly.

Thanks for reading.
Enjoy.

The LaToiya Williams Appreciation Mixtape | Blog.

Dope Song.

This song is STILL the sh*t.

I adore the sound of LaToiya Williams voice. Even though she’s never had a Full Album ever released, only making her musical presence known via her one official release, “Fallen Star,” appearances on songs with Jay-Z, and choruses on Snoop Dogg endorsed songs. Shes never really pursued a career in music… supposedly disillusioned with the business aspect of it all. From my understanding, her true love lies with Hairstyling, and supposedly owns a prosperous salon somewhere in Long Beach. But whenever you can convince this woman to sing on a song, it’s a blessing. And with her most recent appearance (in a while) on the Freeway/Jake One project… its time to celebrate.

I basically went through the collection, and amassed a variety of LaToiya Williams songs… either her own work that was never released, or songs with her guest appearing on them. Its  about 12 tracks deep with 3 of her own songs on there… Turns out these things are hard to find. So I guess I might as well share.

Download and Enjoy.

*Update: 3.15.2012
Now in the studio hard at work on album material, LaToiya is now on the rounds doing live shows and connecting with various producers. In the meantime, shes hopped on some new music lately, and I updated the mixtape to reflect all that awesome. You should find some nice goodies in there.
Download and Enjoy.

It's the Jake One/Freeway Video and Vinyl Appreciation Post.

leave a comment »

After obsessing over the track itself, I have to talk about the video for “Know what I mean.” Real sh*t. I mean, this video is pretty through for a simple hip hop video.. It’s nice when they play it on MTVJams, but the unedited version on youtube? Total gloriousness. As for the leak, yeah, its out there… but I already put my sh*t on preorder. So Ima act right.

Now it’s already awesome that “The Stimulus Package” comes with a fully interactive packaging that included a wallet,  money for liner notes and credit cards that get you special downloads… but the boys took it to that next level… with “The Stimulus Package” Vinyl Edition.

I’ll let my boy Johnbook go into full detail about this Vinyl LP, and why it’s filled with awesome.

The buzz over the compact disc packaging of The Stimulus Package by Freeway & Jake One has been causing ripples on many hip-hop board and forums, making people realize that there’s still life in proper album packaging. I liked it, but of course being the vinyl junkie I am, I asked “HOW ABOUT THE LP VERSION?” Here’s the answer.

As you’ll see by the video, The Stimulus Package will be available as a 2-record set in a color gatefold cover, and the vinyl itself… aaah yeah. This will be a beaut.

Both the vinyl and CD versions of The Stimulus Package can be pre-ordered directly from Fifth Element, and if you order now, you’ll be automatically entered to win one of five 100 dollar cash prizes, and you’ll get a number of extra goodies too like free mixtapes, coupons, etc. Rhymesayers may be practicing quality packaging with their cash money, but they’re also giving away something in recession-conscious times. Now let’s see if the label helps stimulate the brain matter of other labels and artists to push their product in the same fashion.

Yeah. So you can go get that now. Thanks.

Freeway & Jake One: The Stimulus Package | White Van Music.

leave a comment »

Wow.

I don’t know where to begin with this one. Jake One, perhaps one of the most underrated producers in Hip Hop, has been making amazing beats while tucked away in the northwest (Seattle, to be exact). Somewhere along the way of releasing his first album, White Van Music…. and perfecting his craft, Jake managed to grab the attention (and ears) of kids like MF Doom, Strange Fruit Project, Nas, even up to the Fiddy Cent and his crew. But its his most recent work with Freeway (and Brother Ali) which should start bringing him to your attention, shortly.

“The Stimulus Package,” (due 2.16)  Jake One’s latest collaboration with Phily Native (and legend) Freeway is primed to possibly be one of the best Hip Hop albums of 2010. No, I don’t have it yet… this is one of those I’m putting on preorder at my local record store regardless. But what I have heard thus far is making me happy for Hip Hop. Drenched in thick Boom Bap drums, classic hip hop bass and breaks, great usage of jazz and funk samples,  and Freeway doing what HE does on the track… there are very few ways you can fail with this combination. And they are not failing. At all.

Things you need to listen to? Know What I Mean, One Thing Featuring  Raekwon, Jake One’s “The Truth” Featuring Brother Ali and one of his first efforts with Freeway…”. and for those real music nerds…  Know What I Mean (Instrumental). Yeah, you know I got you. LoL.

The Icing on the cake? The PACKAGING, my nerds. Check this video. Building on an ideal that Alice Cooper once touched on way back in the 1970s, Jake and Freeway take it to the next level with “The Stimulus Package Wallet.”

And adding even more fuel to the hype fire… Jake and Freeway already have a mixtape thats making the rounds… and its pretty decent. You can go here to pick up the DJ free version of this hotness.

Thanks to SoulSupreme at Potholes in My Blog for keeping me in those good links, and Tuma at MTVJams for actually playing this shit. 😀

Enjoy.
