The new Jean Grae Mixtape does not suck at all. Download:

Jean Grae, one of the illest females to ever do it and not receive any credit for it, finally refocuses on her music and releases a fairly decent mixtape for us all to enjoy. I havent even listened to it all the way through yet and “Cookies or Comas” is already pretty certifiable at this point. But then again, its Jean Grae.

When Rick Ross reached out to and signed the overly talented Teedra Moses to his ever expanding Maybach Music Label, I was cautiously excited to see where it went… and how long it was going to take to get some new music out of her. Impressive to say the least, Teedra drops an impressive EP within a few weeks of signing. Great sign of her getting down to work, After downloading and thoroughly investigating said EP/Mixtape, I can basically guarantee that its worth your time. Click here to catch the download, and enjoy.

YAY!

So in between recording awesome punchlines, and hitting dates on Paid Dues, and finishing another mixtape for his fans to enjoy, Dee sat down with Music Nerdery again to give me a brief on the new album, and what he’s been up to.

Music Nerdery: Hey Dee. Thanks for indulging my Nerdery again; appreciate it.
First off, congratulations on the Newest Album “I Hope They Hear Me: v.2.” So let’s get straight into the Nerd Stuff. Tell me the goods: Who are your producers on this album, any guest appearances we should look out for, how many tracks are you hitting us with, ect.
Dee-1: So the album has 18 tracks. It features production from Mannie Fresh, Bass Heavy, Steve-O, 5th Child, Phurnace, Flight School, Cuzin Mike, Shamarr Allen, Muhammad Ayers, DJ Eagle Eye, Rockaway Productions, and Oscar Wild. Some of the guest appearances come from Murs, Mannie Fresh, Mickey Factz, and the legendary MAC (a former rapper with Master P’s No Limit Records who is currently serving a 30 year prison sentence for a murder he did not commit).

Music Nerdery: Damn. Thats harsh. We gotta get into that more a bit later. Man, “It’s My Turn” is an ill track. Do you have favorite tracks on the album? Anything that stands out for you.
Dee-1: Yep. I did about 50 songs for this album and had to narrow it down to 18, so I’m attached to every one of them. But today my favs are: “Uncle Tom,” “It’s My Turn,” “The Dog in Me,” “The One That Got Away,” and “Stranger.”

Music Nerdery: Yeah. Stranger is another stand out track. So what was the ideal, concept, mindset or theme behind this album when you started it. Was there a theme, or is this just you on your grind, making things happen?
Dee-1: The mindset was to put together an album that would solidify an undeniable spot for me as a new artist in this industry who is here to stay. I didn’t want to be known as the guy who got lucky and made the “Jay, 50, and, Weezy” song but didn’t have any good songs after that. So I went extra hard on this album because I had that chip on my shoulder.

Music Nerdery: I like the focus you have there. Well, with One Man Army on MTVJams now, you’ve avoided the one trick pony title. So that track you did with Murs is amazing. Can you tell me a bit about that and how this record came into existence?
Dee-1: Sure. “Ridin By Myself” was a song I had done already. I wrote it because I actually come up with some of my best ideas when I’m able to clear my mind and ride around the city by myself. Murs reached out to me after he heard “Jay, 50, and Weezy” and gave me props on it. Then I was out in San Francisco and he happened to be doing a show there that night. So I went to it and we kicked it afterwards. I knew he would sound great on this song so I asked him to get on it. Two days later he had it done!

Music Nerdery: Hah. Nice how that comes together. Thats business. Okay. So this is the point where you give me your list of Artists you would like to work with One Day. If you have one.
Dee-1: Nas. India Arie. Lil Wayne. DMX. Lupe Fiasco. Random, I know. But I’m open to any collaboration that would lead to something creative coming out in the end.

Music Nerdery: I see what you did there with that line up. Cant wait to see you do your thing at Paid Dues. Are you excited for it? How did you end up making it on their Line Up?
Dee-1: I’m absolutely amped up to be on the line-up for Paid Dues. I think I had a good 4th Quarter of 2010 and the staff just felt like I would be a good addition to the line-up. And on twitter I actually get A LOT of love from Cali, so I’m excited to be doing my first show out there.

Music Nerdery: So when are we gonna get an Official Album? Or are you just mixtapin it for the time being?
Dee-1: I’d like to put my next official album out after I sign to a major label. I think that will happen in 2011, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Either way, “I HOPE THEY HEAR ME VOL 2” is out now for free at dee1music.com and the grind isn’t stopping anytime soon. I wanna thank YOU (Ericka) for your continued support of me and my team.
Music Nerdery:
No problem family. Easy to do when you make great music. Keep it up.

Make sure you’re following Dee-1 on twitter, and pick up the new mixtape today.
