Holly Miranda and Rachael Cantu Live at The Bootleg Theatre – 7.6.11. Link:

If I haven’t previously spoken on the amazingness that is Rachael Cantu in all her glory… forgive me. But she’s basically one of the illest female indie acts to come out of Southern California lately. While I’m backed up with multiple concerts to go to, you might want to go check out Rachael with her friend Holly Miranda opening at the Bootleg. Definitely worth the measly $10 ticket. Swipe from LA Weekly:

Holly Miranda’s enchanting vocals float through a shiny sea of swirling synth tones and layers of shimmering atmospherics on her latest album, The Magician’s Private Library, which was produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. The ethereal soundscapes often evoke the Cocteau Twins, but Miranda puts her own distinct stamp on such engrossing interludes as “Waves” and “Slow Burn Trea-son.” A track like “Joints” comes off like a Pink Floyd reverie, but it’s brightened by Miranda’s airy vocals, thoughtful lyrics and compel-lingly feminine mystique. The O.C. native Rachael Cantu has a more straightforward pop-folk style, but her songs are more intelligent than most waiflike singer-songwriters, and her spare version of Tom Waits’ “San Diego Serenade” is both intimate and haunting.

Check out her Facebook page for more music and info on the show tonight, and go have some fun.

When Rick Ross reached out to and signed the overly talented Teedra Moses to his ever expanding Maybach Music Label, I was cautiously excited to see where it went… and how long it was going to take to get some new music out of her. Impressive to say the least, Teedra drops an impressive EP within a few weeks of signing. Great sign of her getting down to work, After downloading and thoroughly investigating said EP/Mixtape, I can basically guarantee that its worth your time. Click here to catch the download, and enjoy.

So remember how I geeked out over that Shaun Boothe record that used that awesome sample from Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody? Well he’s returned (not that he ever left) with some new freshness for you to enjoy. “Do It For You,” his newest track hitting the internets is a uplifting dedication from Shaun to the art of Hip Hop and Music in general (“they say theres no money in music/so you should KNOW I do it for you”). You can check out the song and a short video with him taking you through the heart of his native Canadas by checking the YouTubes and stream/download the song by clicking here.

Find more music from Shaun on his YouTube page… and enjoy.

You might actually rock is what this is

After making a somewhat decent album a few months back, Wilco immediately returns to the scene with this fresh, upbeat and kickass summer indie jam I just wasnt expecting out of them. I kinda needed this in my life; Music Nerdery need this kinda great indie shit from the established kids to remind me why I love rock in the first place. Supposedly to be released in 7in vinyl format… its like they know exactly what I’m into. With indie and Retro Influence and Wilco Awesome all over it… “I Might” is my indie rock jam until something different comes along. Thanks, Nicholas!

Download and enjoy.

Happy 4th and alladat.

My Friends Do Dope Sh*t Alert: 80 Media Presents – Naked Saturdays (Atlanta)

leave a comment »

Even though I tend to be fiercely regional when it comes to my event posting… I still know a good time when I see one. Plus I’m always down to support my friends. My girl 7th Stori is getting her entrepreneur on and is hosting what looks like a great event with some nice sponsors and better appearances by local guests. If youre anywhere near Atlanta this Saturday… I need you to go check it out and tell me how it went.

Good luck girl.
