Set for a June 14th release, the combination of Black Milk + Sean Price + Guilty Simpson = Random Axe; which could be the most kick ass thing to happen to Hip Hop in a while. Also, could be the most randomly awesome mix-up of people since the surprise of Hail Mary Mallon. Plus, if I don’t tell you about this, it would be an injustice to music, and Hexmurda would hunt me down and hate on me to my face.

Enjoy.

I want to be like Jeremy Ellis when I grow up. You dont EVEN understand right now.

Very few people outright inspire me to go out, buy equipment I know nothing about, and play around with making beats on Maschines that I wouldn’t even understand how to use. Adding himself to that small list of people who make me want to be a better musician/person is Detroit born and 808 raised Jeremy Ellis, one of the most suprisingly illest beatmakers to pop up lately. Not only are his skills on the MPC incredible, he also does amazing things on a piano system I have yet to place a name to (but DJ Jedi showed me the other week at Turntable Lab LA and you can see below in his Dilla tribute) and gives you lessons on how to become fairly awesome at it yourself.

If you dont believe me, you can watch him do his thing below.

…and I can’t believe someone got my very first introduction to his skills on tape. An AMAZING Dilla tribute he did in Chinatown a few months back. Glorious. Thanks, guy who got this on tape. You’re amazing.

From there, his website is here, his twitter is here, and let this dude get back into Los Angeles. I’m taking the camera. It will be glorious.
You watch and try to learn something new.

Well. @IndiaBenet is starting to let her Music Light Shine. And I like what I hear/see. YouTube with me:

India Benet. Daughter of Eric Benet. It looks like she picked up the musical gene. Clearly. She first caught my attention when my girl Stephanie sent me a link of her doing an adorable and WELL done Cover/Medley of Nikki Minaj’s “Your Love” with Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved” on guitar. Yeah. Your initial reaction is probably “WTF” and you THINK it wouldn’t work… until India demonstrates the ability to link songs together in any key or tempo. As a Music Nerd… that is impressive. And displays massive talent.

Freaked out by how fast kids grow up and how much talent this one happens to be oozing, I instantly went to her YouTube page and searched related links to find out more on this kid’s awesome. And surely enough… her and Daddy have been at it for a while.

Kinda adorable… and really well done.
She took a break for a minute, probably just being cute and living life. But just recently, shes posted another video of her doing another wonderful cover. This time shes on the piano, singing her little heart out to A Fine Frenzy’s “Almost Lover.”

Interesting to say the least.
Welp, from here, its all about hoping that she gets out there the right way, and has the right people behind her music, if shes serious. And she should be. The talent is definitely there. Check her out on her twitter page, and enjoy.

The first 3....

So what are these Blessings, you ask? I was just offered a wonderful writing position with the KICKASS site, Autostraddle. Wow. Wowwee wowwow. Now, if you’re from the old school, you remember that Autostraddle was one of the first sites to show love and appreciation to me… just at a time where I really needed it. Well ever since then, we’ve been following each others awesomes and plotting out the right time to form like Voltron to give you some of the best fucking music you’ll ever be exposed to. Crystal and the amazing editors at AS have decided that now is that time. *humbled.*

Guitars and Concerts? Well tonight was an amazing night. A fairly normal night for what I do, but still amazing nonetheless. You can’t complain after an evening of wonderful music provided by Zoe Keating and her SuperCello, Kaki King and her 9011 guitars… sitting backstage in the house Jon Brion built. Real Instrument Playing Appreciation Night. Its going down. Not to mention my bestie Matt Melvin making the drive from San Diego to hang out for a while. I was surrounded by win this evening. It was a great feeling. Windy is all over the video, as usual.

Anyways, with that being said… here’s where the Breaks part comes in. When the boss is in town, its time to get to work. There will be traveling involved, so I won’t be on my computer (like THAT) for a minute.  Also; with the new writing gig

...and the other 4. 7 is the magic number.

at Autostraddle… along with kickin it over at the World Famous Potholes… I’m going to have some writing pieces Ima need to focus on. I have to sound like I’m creditable and like I know wtf I’m talking about… so we’ll have to gear all my good vocabulary and vernacular that way for a minute. But I’ll still be here, randomly writing my ass off about whatever, and then not editing the shit, making me look like a total dork.

On top of all that… Its time to start getting serious about finishing the archival for the site and new layout. You guys know ive been wanting to update my baby for a while, but the health of my friend who is doing this site take priority (hey Chris… I love you. Get Better). The less I post, the faster it can get done… so we’ll see how that goes.

I wont be going anywhere. I’ll be around to update you and hopefully post up the new Dee-1 Interview I just finished.  Until then, just go through the archives, because im sure you havent read everything I’ve posted. You do that, and I’ll see you guys in a few days.

Love,
Me.

p.s.
I LOVE ANITA BAKER OH MY GOD.
That is all.

Well thats a win.

Wow. Bundle Up (Click Here). That Epic Minimalist 80s Hip Hop that I LOVE (thanks potholes).

After FINALLY getting off that bullshit Chocolate label, horrible contract they were on and moving up to Green Label Sound, it looks like this is the lead off single from their aptly and awesomely titled “When Fish Ride Bicycles.” I can’t wait. I’ve been waiting for something in full from these boys after seeing them go on right before The Noisettes at Detour Festival 2007. We need more hip hop like this. FUN.

Pennies. What Up Man. Black Mags. 88. Knocked Down. These dude have a legacy of feeding that old school hip hop revival sound that seems to be hot right now. And I can’t WAIT for them to get back to this full-time. Good luck boys.

So Music Nerdery has the great pleasure of bringing you the video follow-up for Dee-1’s latest single, “It’s My Turn.” An Exclusive of sorts, you can say. With the single already out for the last few weeks, he brings you the follow-up video for the MTV and YouTube masses to enjoy (like, right after I asked for it). The new album “I Hope They Hear Me v.2” is due 2.22.11, and I’ll have another interview with Dee ready when the album drops for you; please believe it. For now, watch below and spread the word.
